CSDI Elected ACG Vice Chair, WFC Board Representative
The CEO of Central Securities Depository of Iran is elected as Vice-Chairman of the Asia-Pacific CSD Group, WFC Board Representative for the upcoming period 2024-2027.
Chief Executive Officer of Central Securities Depository of Iran, Mohammad Baghestani, has been elected as Vice-Chairman of the Asia-Pacific CSD Group for the upcoming period 2024-2027.
Following a meeting of the ACG Executive Committee on the sidelines of the 26th session of the ACG Annual General Assembly meeting in Almaty, 9-12 September 2024, the results of the elections were announced.
Chief Executive Officer of Central Depository Company of Pakistan, Badiuddin Akber and CEO and Board Member of Central Securities Depository of Iran, Mohammad Baghestani were elected as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the ACG by a majority of votes respectively.
Winning this position by the CSDI underscores its ironclad efforts and role in support of joint action at regional and global levels, in pursuit of building better future for the region's financial markets.
By assuming this position, Mohammad Baghestani says he looks forward to increasing the contribution to achieving ACG's strategic objectives and fostering partnerships among the member states to conduct its projects and programs, in addition to drawing initiatives that serve its areas of operation.
Previously in 2018, former CEO of CSDI, Hossein Fahimi, was elected as Vice-Chairman of ACG. He was in fact the second vice-chair in ACG's history.
The status is highly regarded, as only two depositories from the Asian region are present on the Board of the World Forum of CSDs (WFC), i.e. the CDC Pakistan whose CEO is now Chairman of the ACG Executive Committee and Central Securities Depository of Iran's Mohammad Baghestani is the Vice-Chair
Asia Pacific Central Securities Depository Group (ACG) - established in 1997 - is a representative forum of all the depositories and clearing houses of the Asia-Pacific region.
The ACG is one of the WFC's five members, which is the global body of depositories and clearing houses, representing all the five regions, namely Asia, Europe, the Middle East & Africa, Americas and CIS states.
The WFC conference convenes every two years and serves as an information sharing and networking platform for leaders of central securities depositories and clearing houses, regulators and custodians including international banks from across the globe.
The CSDI has been a member of the ACG since 2012 and is one of the members of the Executive Committee for the third consecutive term.
The CSDI played host to the 16th ACG Cross Training Seminar (2014) and the 20th ACG Annual General Assembly (2016).
