CSDI CEO Extends Condolences on Passing of Iran's President, Entourage in Helicopter Crash
Tributes, memories and condolences pour in for Iran President, accompanying delegation after deadly helicopter crash
Chief Executive Officer of Central Securities Depository of Iran, Mohammad Baghestani, has in a message sent condolences to the Iranian nation and the government over the passing of President Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi and his accompanying delegation including Foreign Minister, Hossein AmirAbdollahian on Monday 20 May 2024.
“With utmost grief and sorrow, I am saddened by the news of the passing of President Ayatollah Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein AmirAbdollahian and their entourage in a deadly crash. President Raisi was a truly committed patriot who dedicated his life to the betterment and advancement of our nation. May their souls rest in peace," read a statement on the official website of Central Securities Depository of Iran.
"May Allah bestows mercy upon him and rest him in His widely vast paradise,” Baghestani said.
Condolences Pour In
CSDI received several messages of condolences and sympathy over the tragic incident from CSDs and institutions in the region and the world.
Among them, Chairman, Radu Hanga and Secretary General, Konstantin Saroyan, of Federation of Eurasian Stock Exchanges in a letter to CEO of Central Securities Depository of Iran, Mohammad Baghestani, expressed "profound sorrow" and extended sympathy on behalf of FEAS.
The international community also extended condolences to Iran following the tragic incident as Iran declared five days of national mourning.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres conveyed condolences while members of the UN Security Council observed a minute of silence in memory of President Raisi and his entourage.
President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the European Union's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, in separate statements expressed the bloc’s “sincere condolences.”
Leaders from China, India, Iraq, Japan, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, Syria, Turkey, the United States, along with other countries also expressed their condolences.
President Raisi and his entourage including foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian lost their lives in Varzarqan region on May 19.
Raisi was returning on Sunday after traveling to Iran’s border with Azerbaijan to inaugurate a dam with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev when the crash happened in the Dizmar forest in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province.
