Borsa İstanbul Hosts 17th Meeting of Organization Of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Exchanges Forum Online
CSDI participates in 17th online Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Exchanges Forum (Forum).
Central Securities Depository of Iran participates in the 17th Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Exchanges Forum (Forum) online on 31 October 2023.
Representatives from 14 exchanges, 6 clearing, settlement and custody institutions and 7 sectoral institutions attended the meeting hosted by Borsa İstanbul.
Speaking at the opening session, Deputy General Manager at the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC) Coordination Office, Selçuk Koç, said: “The OIC Stock Exchanges Forum is carrying out important work. I hope that this Forum, prepared on the impact of rapidly developing digitalization on capital markets, will contribute to all participants.”
Also speaking at the opening session, Borsa İstanbul CEO and Board Member, Korkmaz Ergun, thanked the participants and said: “We have made significant progress in the projects we have carried out since our last meeting. We have prepared a comprehensive Forum program that we hope will lead to new ideas and actions regarding our cooperation. We invite all OIC exchanges, clearing and custody institutions to continue working with determination on our joint projects.”
Forum keynote speaker, Sharjah Chair in Islamic Law and Finance at Durham University, Habib Ahmed, conveyed his remarks on "Potential and Future of the OIC Capital Markets". Following the keynote speech, a panel discussion was held on "Digitalization and artificial intelligence in capital markets". Representatives from Borsa Istanbul, Nash FintechX, Indonesia’s Hajj Fund and Ziraat Portfolio Management also made their presentations at the meeting.
The OIC Exchanges Forum was established in 2005 through the initiatives of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) in order to strengthen cooperation and encourage the transfer of knowledge and experience among the exchanges of OIC member states. Borsa İstanbul acts as the secretariat on behalf of the Forum. Forum meetings bring together OIC exchanges, clearing and custody institutions and other relevant OIC institutions (IsDB, AAOFI, IIFM, IFSB, SESRIC etc.) every year.
Central Securities Depository of Iran joined the OICEF in 2008.
